Hey Guys!
Following New Years, it’s easy to get lost in the idea of all the resolutions that were set. I know I discussed last week different ways to set reasonable resolutions but oftentimes, long term change comes from consistently setting short term goals, repeatedly. This week’s post will be relatively short but helpful for many.
Setting a few personal weekly goals for yourself can help you reach your long term goals. Whenever you set a goal for yourself, whether short or long term, you should always be mindfully moving toward the kind of life you want for yourself. If I had to describe the kind of life I’m looking for, it’s one where I have my thoughts and anxiety in check and I’m able to fully enjoy whatever phase of life I’m in. Will it always be that way? Of course not. Of course there are phases that will be hard and phases that will be easy with some phases sprinkled in between. But what I am capable of doing, is moving forward, step by step toward the mentally peaceful mind I’m looking to enjoy life with.
My personal goals for this week are:
1- Do the exercises given by my therapist and really set some time aside to really deep dive into how my mind works to protect itself. What kind of thoughts or feelings push forward? What kind of thoughts and feelings are being avoided? Why?
2- Really focus on being present with my children when we spend time together. Lately, I have found myself wandering away from our day to day routine and I want to reel that back in and get back to a structured routine that benefits them and be present while doing it.
3- Focus on my health– I want to workout and push myself in those workouts this week. I want to stay true to my diet which I personally believe will lead me to a better physical, emotional AND mental state. I also want to take some time to do a few meditations to keep my mind at ease.
Make a list of 3 personal goals for yourself this week and stick to them. Write them down on a piece of paper and put the paper somewhere you’ll see it often so you’re reminded to stay the course. If you have a hard time following through, at the bottom of the paper, right your WHYS. Write out the reasons you want to set these goals and work positively toward the life you want.
