Inspired (like really, truly inspired) by Raine Sillito from Ordinary Magic, I opened my journal this morning and decided to make a list of “Lights in the Darkness”. In her article, “Maybe beauty is all we get”, Raine discusses how grief can become overwhelming and all consuming. During those heavy times, we naturally start to search for beauty to pull us out. To bring in the light.
This got me thinking, grief never leaves. Nor should it. I once read (and have mentioned before), “grief is just love with no where to go”. Almost everyone has experienced grief, and if you haven’t, unfortunately, you will. There is no escaping loss. Not in this life.
So this morning, December 8, 2023, after I have sipped my latte, hugged and kissed my babies as they came downstairs with sleepy eyes and a rested soul, I made my list of lights in the darkness. The daily sprinkles of twinkles that are begging to be seen, heard and experienced.
Lights in the Darkness:
hearing “mama” from 3 tiny, soft voices
good morning kisses from Ricky
the smell of coffee brewing
lurking coyotes out back
birds chirping
deer roaming
morning light/sunrise
bone broth
ice cream
cold, crisp sparkling water
a good book
listening to my 6yo reading
walks with Haze 🐾
There is always beauty to be found. All day, everyday. Working on finding the beauty, noticing the pull it has to get you out of the darkness, and above all, allowing it to pull you out of the darkness.
